Special Effect Varieties and (−1)-curves

چکیده

Here we introduce the concept of special effect curve which permits to study, from a different point of view, special linear systems in P, i.e. linear system with general multiple base points whose effective dimension is strictly greater than the expected one. In particular we study two different kinds of special effect: the α−special effect is defined by requiring some numerical conditions, while the definition of h−special effect concerns cohomology groups. We state two new conjectures for the characterization of special linear systems and we prove they are equivalent to the Segre and the Harbourne-Hirschowitz ones.

ON THE k-REGULARITY OF SOME PROJECTIVE MANIFOLDS

The conjecture on the (degree − codimension+ 1)regularity of projective varieties is proved for smooth linearly normal polarized varieties (X, L) with L very ample, for low values of ∆(X, L) = degree− codimension− 1. Results concerning the projective normality of some classes of special varieties including scrolls over curves of genus 2 and quadric fibrations over elliptic curves, are proved.

Correspondences with Split Polynomial Equations

We introduce endomorphisms of special jacobians and show that they satisfy polynomial equations with all integer roots which we compute. The eigen-abelian varieties for these endomorphisms are generalizations of Prym-Tyurin varieties and naturally contain special curves representing cohomology classes which are not expected to be represented by curves in generic abelian varieties.

Algebraic description of Jacobians isogeneous to certain Prym varieties with polarization (1,2)∗

For a class of non-hyperelliptic genus 3 curves C which are 2-fold coverings of elliptic curves E, we give an explicit algebraic description of all birationally nonequivalent genus 2 curves whose Jacobians are degree 2 isogeneous to the Prym varieties associated to such coverings. Our description is based on previous studies of Prym varieties with polarization (1,2) in connection with separatio...
